Solaris

This morning, i read in the June issue of Sound On Sound that the Solaris Synth is finally being released. I first saw the Solaris prototype back at the 2009 NAMM show, and at the time it seemed really interesting. Its a new hardware synth that provides the user with Minimoog, Oberheim/Sequential, PPG Wave style oscillator and filter emulations. The Solaris also has an extensive modulation matrix.
http://johnbowen.com/solaris-overview.html

The creator of the Solaris used to work for the now defunct Creamware, makers of the Hardware/DSP/Virtual Analog ASB modules, such as the 'Prodyssey':

Reading about the Solaris led me to wonder about the old Creamware company, and where they were now, apparently Creamware is now a new company called Sonic Core. Sonic Core now makes an external Plug-In DSP hardware unit called the 'Scope'. Scope allows users to host Creamware/Sonic Core plug-ins within the Scope hardware unit itself, which frees up your main computers processor/memory, in order to allow your host to run more efficiently.
Sonic Core also have software/plug-in versions of the original 'ASB' synths, such as the Prodyssey, Pro-12, and others.

Fuck_Yeah_Fest_2010_

Here's a few links to the cool bands i saw at the recent Fuck Yeah Fest/ FYF in LA:

WARPAINT:
Stars -

Billie Holiday -

BEST COAST:
When i'm with you -

COLD CAVE:
Life Magazine -

Sufjan_Stevens_i_walked_

I was with Ryan and some of his friends when this song came up on the radio.

I had never heard of Sufjan Stevens before, but really liked the song 'i walked'

We had just come back from Ryans birthday dinner, and it was like 3 AM, already.

After this, all i can really remember is
listening to what seemed like a thousand smiths songs -
drinking what seemed like a 'bowl' of sangria -
falling asleep in ryans arms, on his friends couch -

This track is a demo recording from 2001/ 2002
i recently re-transferred it from the original 4-track recording, and enhanced the synth part by running it through something from Reaktor...

.:A_ribcage_and_some_matted_fur_

a few days ago i saw a dead animal on my way up to the overlook..
it looked like it had been put there by someone, and it's been there for quite some time.. it was actually the skeleton.. i'm assuming it was a coyote, but i can't really tell.. and now that i think of it, all i really could see from the road was a ribcage and some matted fur.. it was really disturbing and it caught me so off guard that i had to pull over, get out and walk over to get another look, becuase part of me thought it was a dead body.. as in the dead body of a person... the ribcage was big enough that it looked like it could have belonged to a person..
..i'll try to get a picture in the next few days
[.:Updated_]

.:Another_Day_

i looked up from my book and saw a guy and a girl filming from the overlook with super 8 cameras!
i so very much wanted to talk to them, but didn't because, though we had something in common, i dreaded the akwardness of
having nothing to say..

..once
super-8 talk ran out >_<

they
seemed
too
young
to
be
friends
with
anyway
but it was nice to see people still making super-8 movies.

[now playing: isolation _joy_division:.]

i still have like 5 rolls that i never developed from 2001

i overheard a tourguide tell his tour group that one of the houses clearly visible from the overlook belongs to ice-t.. so now he's all i'll think about when i go up there..
i wonder if ice-t's ever read microserfs..
maybe when i finish the book, i'll find his front door and leave it there for him to read.. i'll attach a note..

"dear ice-t.. i read a good 90% of this book right here in front of your house.. now i'm done, and i loved it! to celebrate, i'm giving it to you.. enjoy! and PS whatever happened to bodycount? i think the world is just about ready for a new bodycount album.. don't you?
                                                    .:Rocky_"

i
wonder
if
ice-t

actually
drinks
iced tea
or

do
you
think
he's

too
embarassed
to
buy

it
at
whole
foods
or
gelsons
or
wherever

it
is
he
shops..

[now playing: you are a knife _VETO:.]

so i just got up a little while ago.. like around 10, actually..
i watched boogie nights on IFC w/ tomek last night
killed the last half of a bottle of chard..

i'd forgotten how good of a movie boogie nights is..
i pretty much love anything with julianne moore, though..
paul thomas anderson makes good movies.. but what i couldn't get over was how much stronger boogie nights is than magnolia.. because i've always liked magnolia more..
God knows i've watched magnolia enough..

mark wahlberg's dick does look totally fake though..
but then, thats probably like the 1 most popular comment about that movie, and as i type, i feel disappointed in myself for wasting my blog to point that out..
oh well

_Last_WEek:.
i've been going to the overlook i always go to for lunch.. i like it there.. its really strange though because what happens is, i park, i take out my book and start reading.. meanwhile, about every 5 minutes, these converted minivan-tourist buses pull up, letting out small groups of people.. people who are visiting LA, i assume.
the driver/guide gives them fun facts about hollywood, and points out visible celebrity homes.. i wasn't really paying attention the other day, but i half-heard something about a house owned by -the brando's- i only remember, because this seemed to be a big deal to the crowd.

so usually while i sit there, i see between 3 and 6 groups come and go..
[now playing: staring at the sun _tv_on_the_radio:.]
a few days ago i watched planes go by, listening to computer world.. i watched them glide over downtown, and descend onto LAX..
the other night, after work i went to
_House_of_Pies:.
to read, and have coffee..
i don't think i'm going to seat myself at the counter anymore, because the waitresses make me uncomfortable..

i'm
sort

of
searching

for
a

new
"dive"

right
now

so if anyone reading this has any suggestions, please.. do let me know in the form of a comment (Kudo's optional)

i'm going to be sad when i finish Microserfs..
i don't know what it is about douglas coupland, but i just want to absorb his books like an orange chamois towel..
next, i'm goign to start with his 1st book, and read his work in chronological order.. which means i have to track down a copy of 1991's Generation X
